MUMBAI: On April 25, 2015, an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scale ripped through Nepal and destroyed approximately 70,000 houses. Over 200,000 people have survived the calamity but have been rendered homeless and await food, water, medicines and shelter.
To do its bit to alleviate their problems, MoneyOnMobile joins hands with Catapooolt, the collaborative crowdfunding platform, and Oxfam India, an independent not-for-profit organization that aims to create an equal, just and sustainable society by empowering the underprivileged.
"Oxfam is on the ground in Nepal and providing clean drinking water, food, sanitation facilities and hygiene support to at least 350,000 survivors," says Zubin Zaman, Oxfam's Deputy Director for Humanitarian and DRR.
MoneyOnMobile is a mobile wallet provider specializing in micro-payments and shall enable its vast retail network of 250,000 touch-points and 11 million consumers to provide offline crowdfunding to Catapooolt by collecting donations from consumers and retailers.
Speaking on the occasion, Shashank Joshi, Managing Director, MMPL said, "We are happy that our mobile payment solution and our vast network of retail partners can be of help to reach resources to our friends in Nepal. We thank Catapooolt for taking us on board for this noble initiative and wish our friends at Oxfam all the very best in their endeavours."
According to Satish Kataria, Founder and CEO of Catapooolt, "The people of Nepal need your help. We are planning to currently raise Rs. 10 lakhs - and will extend the campaign as the requirements come up. Your smallest contribution can help provide food, water and shelter to thousands. The funds collected will be used for providing clean water, food, sanitation and hygiene support to the displaced people, and for building shelters for the homeless. Do your bit now."
