GUWAHATI, India: Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival is one-of-a-kind film festival in the Northeast, and following the huge success of the initial first two editions in 2013 and 2014, the third edition of the festival is all set to be launched on a much bigger scale this year. The Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival will be hosted on 24th, 25th and 26th April at Pragjyoti ITA, Machkhowa, Guwahati. This year nationally and internationally renowned film personalities such as, Rajkumar Hirani, director of popular movies such as PK, 3 Idiots, Lage Raho Munnabhai and Munnabhai MBBS, Shimit Amin, director of Chak De India will come to Guwahati to attend the three-day festival. The featured directors will be accompanied by national award-winning actor Rajkumar Rao, popularly known for his roles in Shahid, Citylights, Queen and Kai Po Che. The dashing and charismatic actor Kunal Kapoor from Rang De Basanti fame will also attend the festival this year.
The three-day festival will have movie screenings of featured directors, regional movies, audience interaction sessions, workshops and panel discussions on topics related to films, award ceremony and cultural performances. A short film was also organised at the initial stage of the festival among the new and professional film makers of the eight state of the northeastern region. Over hundred shorts films were received from all across northeast. Out of all the entries, the top 10 will be screened at the film festival and the top three winners will be awarded prizes over Rs. 2.5 lacs along with the scope to work with one of the premier directors of national repute.
The Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival was conceived in the year 2013 with the objective of promoting northeast cinema and providing networking platform for regional film makers. The festival also aims to bring in great story tellers under one roof, offering the audience a dynamic experience of cinema, short films, documentaries, culture and performing arts. The festival also aims to encourage the region's film makers to express more through creativity. The festival recognises contribution of the regional film makers through the short film contest as well as some of the best films from the region are also screened for film enthusiasts. Since last year, a life time achievement award is also introduced to honour exceptional contribution to the northeast film industry. This festival also creates platform for aspiring film-makers and develop career opportunities for young talents of the northeast and in the process encourage cultural exchange through cinema.
This year, renowned film maker from Assam Reema Kagti, Director - Talaash; Ronnie Lahiri, Producer of alternate cinema Mardas Cafe and Vicky Donor along with Smt. Bobbeeta Sarma, Chairperson, Assam State Film Finance & Development Corporation are the honourary advisors of the festival who have helped in bringing the festival into shape.
The organiser invites film fraternity of region along with film enthusiasts and general public to be part of this three-day celebration of films and culture.
