NEW DELHI: Marking a double victory at Wills Lifestyle's 'The Debut', Pearl Academy students
Mridul Jacob and Anubha Jain bagged the title trophy and Special Jury Award respectively
at the grand finale held at New Delhi recently. Deveesha Batra and Sanjana Jain who
showcased their collections at the grand finale, were the other two finalists from Pearl
Academy, India's leading design and fashion education institute.
'The Debut' is an extension of Wills Lifestyle's association with 'Wills Lifestyle
India Fashion Week' and is a unique initiative recognising India's fresh talent in fashion
designing. Students from other eminent fashion schools such as National Institute of
Fashion Technology (NIFT), National Institute of Design (NID), Northern India Institute of
Fashion Technology (NIIFT), Amity School, Noida and J. D. Institute of Fashion Technology
competed with each other at the regional rounds held at Kolkata, Bangaluru and Mumbai.
Only the top fourteen could make it to the grand finale at New Delhi.
Exhilarated and surprised at his win, Mridul Jacob, the final year student of Pearl
Academy, Chennai, and the winner of the seventh edition of 'The Debut' was thankful to the
jury and the almighty. "I would cherish this experience for my entire life. This was a
wonderful platform and I enjoyed every stage of it", said Mridul. Mridul would also be
felicitated at the forthcoming Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week in March 2013.
Sharing similar feelings, Anubha Jain, the Final Year Student of Pearl Academy, New
Delhi, who won the Special Jury Award, said, "It was the best day of my life. Nothing is
more rewarding than recognition at such a big platform. This award is also going to be my
inspiration in future."
Appreciative of the winners, Mr. Sharad Mehra, CEO, Pearl Academy, said, "It is a
great feeling to know and share that Pearl Academy has continued its winning streak this
year as well. Four out of the last five years, our students have won this award becoming
national winners. Congratulations to Mridul and Anubha for bringing this glory to our
Academy once again! We are proud to have these jewels."
"I would also like to thank and congratulate the dedicated faculty members at Pearl
Academy who taught and guided the students so well", Mr. Mehra further added.
The jury at the grand finale comprised of eminent designers Ms. Namrata Joshipura, Mr.
Nitin Bal Chauhan and Mr. Sartaj Mehta, Head Designer, Wills Lifestyle, who evaluated the
participants on key parameters of creativity, technicality and commercial viability.
Winner Mridul's collection was named 'Saddle Up' and was based on the theme of men's
work-wear. Especially catering to the needs of men who cycle to work in Milan, the
ensembles have been tailored with fabrics that assist cycling during winter.
Special Jury Award Winner, Anubha Jain's creations were based on the theme - 'Denim
Revolution'. Inspired from the young, rebellious and dynamic girls of today's world, the
collection was aimed to target the younger generation of the society.
While finalist Deveesha Batra's 'M2' collection was inspired from the evergreen
musical icons Michael Jackson and Madonna, the other finalist from Pearl Academy, Sanjana
Jain's creations were spreading sunshine and exuding energy as they were inspired from the
hippy culture and named 'Summer of Love 1967'.
Pearl Academy's name echoed in the corridors of ITC Sheraton, Saket, New Delhi, by the
end of the Grand Finale of 'The Debut'. The credit for this success goes to the academy's
brilliantly creative students Mridul Jacob, Anubha Jain, Deveesha Batra and Sanjana Jain.
