DELHI: The launch edition of the Delhi Jewellery and Gem Fair (DJGF), held on the eve of the festive and wedding season, proved to be a highly successful B2B event in Delhi. The two-day fair was attended by about 2,000* key buyers and sellers from across India. These included heads of major associations across India, leading Indian jewellery retailers and international delegations.
The exhibition, organised by UBM, was inaugurated by Shri Siddharth Singh, IAS, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, who is responsible for jewellery exports from India. Other prominent figures present at the fair were Satishchand Ji Singhvi, President, Delhi Jewellers Association, Vijay Khanna, President, Karol Bagh Jewellers Association, and Ramesh Narang, of Hazoorilal Jewellers
In addition to providing a trading platform, the event saw a host of knowledge sharing sessions conducted in conjunction with the best in the business. On both days, NYUZ, a jewellery consultancy, organised panel discussions with prominent members from the industry like Subhash Bhola of Bholasons, Ishu Datwani of Anmol Jewellers and Prerna Khurana to name a few.
Subhash Bhola of Bholasons Jewellers commented, "Delhi is the only city connected to four states and unfortunately there have been no quality shows in Delhi. We are looking forward to having a big show in Delhi, for which only UBM can pull-through. Since Delhi has much more potential and is very well connected as compared to other metros, DJGF could become one of the biggest shows in India."
Authorities on the subject, knowledge partners GIA and DGL, presented a series of workshops and seminars on various facets of gemstones and diamonds as well as sales techniques. e-Commerce education partner, eBay, conducted a session on international e-selling for the jewellery trade.
The fair was attended by 1,946 buyers and sellers over two days. Of these, 1,396 were unique buyers from Delhi, including Punjab and Rajasthan and other regions of India. It was also attended by foreign delegations hoping to foster greater benefit for the jewellery trade between their countries and India.
The international trade fair saw participation from over 70 exhibitors including leading industry names such as Gitanjali Brands (Luxury Division) showcasing Italian jewellery, Jai Gulab Dev displaying traditional gold and temple jewellery, Surya Golds featuring exquisite cubic zirconia jewellery set in gold, Yash Lifestyle highlighting their platinum range and Shree Ramkrishna Exports with their sparkling diamonds on display.
Shailesh Sanghani of Priority Jewels, an exhibitor at the fair, said, "The constant inflow of buyers, who came in with queries and business on their mind, kept us busy throughout the fair. Buyers who came from different states of North India were interested to do serious business. After such an overwhelming response, I would expect this show to grow bigger and better in coming years."
Mr. Sanjeev Khaira, MD for UBM India said, "UBM India is proud to deliver a successful launch of the Delhi Jewellery and Gem Fair. With its latest foray into Delhi, UBM aims to cater to the entire northern region of India and provide a quality meeting place for the gems and jewellery industry to conduct business, foster partnerships and provide valuable thought leadership initiatives. The first edition of the Delhi Fair was a test. The support and success we received will serve as a springboard for a larger three-day show next year. North India is a key region for the jewellery industry in India; it deserves a major B2B show to support the industry. We are confident that by working with industry partners we can deliver this in the years to come."
(*A total of 1,946 buyers and sellers attended the event which was held on 8th & 9th September at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. This included 1,396 unique key buyers from the overall population in attendance.)
