FARMINGTON (Connecticut): Otis Elevator Company, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX),
has won a contract to supply and install 63 elevators and escalators for
Kohinoor Square, in Mumbai. Kohinoor Square will include one of India's
tallest office buildings and is currently pursuing Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification from the Indian Green
Building Council. Otis recently provided energy-efficient elevators to
Kohinoor Hospital in India, the first hospital in Asia, and only the second
hospital in the world, to be awarded LEED Platinum certification.
"We are honored to once again have been chosen by the Kohinoor Group and
to build upon Otis' long history in India," said Otis President Didier
Michaud-Daniel. "Every installation of Otis' energy-saving technologies and
products helps advance our company, and our customers, on The Way To Green."
Kohinoor Square is designed to be a state-of-the-art office complex and
will offer a range of sophisticated technologies including Otis' Compass(TM)
destination management and EMS Panorama(TM) systems. The Compass system
offers tenants and visitors personalized elevator service while improving the
flow of building traffic. Passengers enter their destination floors using
keypads or interactive touch screens and are directed to the most efficient
elevator route. Otis' EMS Panorama is a Web-based application that enables
building staff to monitor, control, report on and manage a full range of
operational-critical elevator functions from any computer with an Internet
connection.
Otis will provide 16 escalators and 47 elevators, including six Gen2(R)
elevators, to Kohinoor Square. The award-winning line of Gen2 elevators
utilizes Otis' patented, polyurethane-coated steel belts. Flexible belts make
the Gen2 machine 70 percent smaller and up to 50 percent more efficient than
conventional geared machines. A more compact, energy-efficient machine also
frees up valuable building space and reduces operating costs.
"Efficient, reliable elevators are vital in either a hospital or
high-rise building," said Unmesh Joshi, chairman of the Kohinoor Group. "Our
partnership with Otis will help ensure that Kohinoor facilities offer
world-class accessibility and customer service while creating a new benchmark
in socially responsible buildings."
"Otis is proud to partner with customers like the Kohinoor Group who
share our deep commitment to environmental leadership," said Michaud-Daniel.
"Otis' energy-efficient Gen2 elevators will help ensure that Kohinoor
patients, residents and visitors have a safe and smooth ride experience while
conserving India's energy resources."
Since its inception in 1961, the Kohinoor Group has earned a
distinguished name for itself in fields as diverse as education, hospitality,
real estate, power, and healthcare. The Kohinoor Group has an experienced
team of real estate development professionals working on its varied projects,
