Bhilai Steel Plant's (BSP) production during the first quarter of the current fiscal (2008-09) has surpassed all previous records, a company statement said Sunday.

"In 2008-09, not only have we sustained higher levels of production, the Fe 500 grade of TMT, which we are producing in both Merchant & Wire Rod Mills, is now being made available to the customer with earthquake-resistant (EQR) properties," said the statement of India's largest public sector steel maker.

"The Merchant Mill has exceeded its Q1 annual business plan target of 1.24 lakh (124,000) tonnes by producing 1.47 lakh (147,000) tonnes to meet more orders for its high corrosion-resistant grade and EQR in Fe 500 grade."

BSP, the flagship unit of the public sector Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) had recorded its best performance so far in last fiscal, 2007-08, in the production of hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel.
