Moradabad is renowned for brass work and has carved a niche for itself in the handicraft industry throughout the world. It is now one of the biggest Exports Centers of Handicrafts in the Country. There are over 1600 exporters in Moradabad and 7,000 production units, which predominantly fall in the cottage and small-scale sectors. Moradabad constitutes more than 85 percent of metal art ware exports from U.P. The sector today provides direct and indirect employment to estimated 2,00,000 artisans.

Looking at the role being played by Moradabad handicrafts industry, Moradabad has been declared a mega cluster by the Govt. of India. To harness the potential of expanding the product base in metal crafts as well as other crafts of the region, EPCH with the support of Ministry of Textiles have set up Moradabad Resource Centre for guiding and building the innovation process elaborated Rakesh Kumar.

Moradabad has evolved to earn distinctive repute in the global market for home decorative. Lot of credit goes to the enterprising manufacturers of this city who have engaged several measures to keep the craft heritage alive and connected it to buyers in their export markets. Their exposure to different markets over the years has inspired new creations that have emerged with interplay of different materials, finishes and forms. Large number of member of the Council from Moradabad are engaged in making of vases. The traditional vases of Moradabad that were so far a collector’s delight, have found a new spin with their transformation into lamp bases and lamps which are in great demand in European and other markets and lighting up their bedrooms.

Some of the member exporters such as Fantasy Exports, Moradabad Handicrafts of India, Zedsons, Bight Star International, Lois Creations and Leeza International who have converted vases into lamps are participating in 42nd edition of IHGF-Delhi Fair Autumn 2016 being held at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida, NCR, Delhi. Their products are found to be the main attractions by the visiting buyers said Rakesh Kumar, ED – EPCH.

Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) which is a nodal agency for promotion and development of handicrafts has been organizing the Indian Handicrafts & Gifts Fair for the last 22 years. IHGF-Delhi Fair Autumn 2016 is expected to generate huge amount of enquiries and orders.
