Activists of the Right to Food Campaign demonstrated here Tuesday to demand an inclusive National Food Security Act and to protest against the direct cash transfer scheme.
The campaign has the support of many civil society groups.
"We have began our protest at Jantar Mantar to reassert the immediate enactment of a comprehensive and more inclusive National Food Security Act, and also against the the UID (Unique Identification card)-driven cash transfer programme," Farah Zia of advocacy group CFAR told IANS.
The protesters also want an universal Public Distribution System linked to the government's Integrated Child Development Scheme.
